Crossroads Prison Ministries Australia

Christ-centred relationships change everything.

Crossroads connects people in prison with mentors from churches across Australia. As these men and women in prison study the Bible by correspondence, mentors provide personalised feedback and encouragement through meaningful letters.

A ministry of encouragement

Your words can remind someone in prison that they have not been forgotten.

Why this matters

A letter can become a bridge between the church outside and the church inside.

Many people in prison live with deep loneliness, shame, and disconnection. Crossroads exists to answer Jesus’ call to remember them. Through Bible study and personalised encouragement, mentors help students encounter God’s love, rediscover dignity, and grow in faith.

This is not a one-way ministry. Mentors are often say they grow in faith as much as the students.

“Remember those in prison as if you were together with them.” — Hebrews 13:3

I am very thankful for Crossroads and the mentors for all their efforts at bringing God into my life and helping me get to know Him better. The encouragement has been life-changing for me.
I love the encouraging letters from all the different mentors, how they share their lives, thoughts, and views with me, and having so many people praying for me.

How it works

Serve from home. Encourage with faithfulness. Watch God work.

Mentoring with Crossroads is simple, personal, and deeply meaningful. You do not need to be an expert. You need a willing heart, a commitment to encouragement, and a desire to support people in prison as they study God's Word.

1

Apply and prepare

Complete your application, receive training, and get ready to mentor with confidence. Crossroads will guide you through each step.

2

Write and encourage

Review a student’s Bible lesson and respond with encouragement, Scripture, and prayer through handwritten letters.

3

Grow together

Over time, trust grows. Students and mentors experience unexpected connection, deeper faith, and genuine transformation.

Real stories

No one is beyond God’s reach.

Crossroads stories are full of grace and growth. Again and again, mentors discover that this ministry is not about rescuing people from a distance. It is about meeting one another through God’s Word with humility, compassion, and hope.

Keep encouraging them. Remind them they are not alone. It is not for us to judge. Our role is to support and uplift.

Maurits and Ada’s story

Over the years, mentoring with Crossroads reinforced a beautiful truth for Maurits and Ada: no one is beyond God’s reach. As they wrote, prayed, and encouraged students, their own faith deepened too.

Their story captures the heart of Crossroads: Christ-centred relationships break down barriers, challenge assumptions, and reveal the life-changing grace of God.
